Born in Weatherford, Texas, George Wythe (1893-1990) graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1914, where he had served as editor of The Texan and was a charter member of the Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity. After college, he was a delegate the Henry Ford peace expedition and worked as a columnist for the Dallas News (1916-1917).
